Meet the Team
Shirley Van Nostrand
Independent Agent
Shirley has been selling Medicare insurance plans for over 20 years. She brings a wealth of experience to the company.
She enjoys working with her clients each year and looks forward to meeting new clients.
Shirley previously worked for PacificCare selling Secure Horizons and Puget Sound Health Partners, afterward known as SoundPath Health, as an outside sales associate. She loved what she did but was frustrated with only being able to offer one plan to her clients when there are several other plans available.
With the goal of ending that frustration, in September of 2010 she joined the self-employed world as an insurance broker. This allows her the ability to be full service to her clients showing them all the plans their doctor accepts, making it much easier for her clients to enroll in the plan that best suits their insurance needs.
She absolutely loves what she does and can’t wait to see what the future brings while growing the business.
Shirley is the proud mother of three sons and has five grandchildren.
Jesse Van Nostrand
Independent Agent
Jesse has been in the industry for 16 years.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.
Jesse was more than willing to join his mother, Shirley, in branching out with their new business so they could become independent brokers.
Before becoming self-employed, Jesse worked at SoundPath Health (no longer in existence) as an inside sales associate. Having a background in Medicare plans made it an easy transition to start working as a broker.
Jesse has always worked in sales and really enjoys working with people. He, just like his mom, treats his clients with the highest respect and likes to make sure his client's experience is enjoyable.
Jesse played hockey for most of his life and is a fan of all sports. He enjoys going to comedy shows, cycling, snowboarding, going to and participating in car shows, water sports, and more.
Jesse enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons!
Kyle Van Nostrand
Independent Agent
Kyle joined the company alongside his mother and brother in 2011.
With 11 years of experience helping our senior population under his belt, Kyle is very knowledgeable about all the different companies and plan benefits.
Kyle is happy to meet with you to educate you on Medicare and the insurance plans that your physicians accept. He will make it easy for you to understand the Medicare world and will explain the plan benefits so you can find a plan to meet your individual needs. He really enjoys working with his clients.
Kyle enjoys sports and hockey most of all but spends the majority of his time with his wife and two children.
Michelle Sahagun-Van Nostrand
Independent Agent
Michelle is originally from Mexico where she attended college. She started working with us after marrying Kyle and joining the Van Nostrand family.
She quickly realized that she liked the agent's work and helping seniors figure out what plan best fits their individual needs. That led her to get licensed in 2016 and she since has been helping her clients realize that there isn't a plan that works perfectly for everyone but she'll be sure to get you a plan as close to perfect for you as possible.
She took a break from Advantage Insurance Benefits for a little while but her former clients should be glad to know that as of July of 2022, she is back working with us again!
Michelle is a native Spanish speaker.
Nichole Barnes
Independent Agent
Nichole has been a long-time family friend of the Van Nostrands, which began when she and Shirley were in the same hire class at Northwest Airlines as reservation agents in 1996. She and Shirley became fast friends and have worked together on various projects over the years.
After taking some time off from work to raise her 3 daughters, Nichole obtained her insurance license and joined the company as an agent in 2011. She has a passion for helping people and found her niche in the world of health insurance.
Nichole knows that health insurance can be a bit overwhelming and, at times, intimidating. Her goal is to help put her clients at ease by listening to their needs and concerns and putting them first. There is no greater compliment to her than having someone say "Thank you. You made that so easy."
Nichole enjoys spending time with her family, whether it’s Sunday night dinners, watching her youngest play volleyball and basketball, or vacationing somewhere warm by a pool. She and her husband own a small Italian restaurant in Sumner, WA. She also serves the community with her husband, a pastor for a church in Bonney Lake, WA. She also enjoys teaching group fitness classes for her local gyms.
